Lying south and west of what now the SW corner of Otsego county, the Iroquois settlement at Onaquaga (now North Windsor) was hundreds of years old, a trading post and missionary station. During the 1740's, William Johnson expanded the trading post, making it the very important south western corner of his Mohawk Valley empire for many years. It became the base of operations for the British-Indian forces on the New York State frontier of the 1770s, supporting raids, incursions and battles through and into the central Mohawk Valley.
While there is no excavated site or guided interpretation for visitors, one can imagine this impressive village winding along the Susquehanna River.
